The Egyptians believed that the Afterlife was just like life in Egypt, but better. They believed the Afterlife was the perfect life.
The Trial:
Before the soul could enter the Afterlife, it first went to the trial chamber. There, it was decided if the deceased could move on to the Afterlife. In the trail chamber, twelve different gods each sat on thrones to judge the trail. Osiris, who was the god of the Underworld, would make the final decision to see if the person would move on to The Field Of Reeds, another name for the Afterlife.
If the soul was found to be good and true, it moved on to see Osiris. When the soul arrived, it was holding the hand of Horus, Osiris's son. The soul would kneel in front of Osiris, who sat on a throne with an ornate canopy behind him, and became their Osiris self. This meant the name Osiris was put before the deceased's name. If the deceased had Osiris before their name, it meant they were part of The Kingdom Of The Dead. The soul could now enter the Afterlife.
The Afterlife:
Aaru., The Field Of Reeds, and the Underworld are all names for the Afterlife. To the Egyptians, the Afterlife was a perfect paradise Instead of a dry brown desert, there was a place filled with water and trees. The souls would do work like they did in the Upper world, but instead, the work was not quite as hard. The souls were happy as they worked and would be for the rest of eternity...
